Once your child gets the virus, make sure that it does not spread. Let your child stay at home first until all of the spots have dropped off. The virus is most infectious in the first two days before the rashes start appearing. If your child is infected, make sure that he doesn't go to public areas so other people like pregnant women and newborn babies will not become infected as well.
Chickenpox is just a mild illness but it can make children feel irritable and miserable. Fever can be present for the first few days they are sick and the spots get incredibly itchy. Although there is no real treatment for chickenpox, some medicines like paracetamol can be taken to relieve fever. Ointments can also be applied to lessen the itching.
Since chickenpox is a mild illness, some children can get well without having to see a doctor. However, other children can become very ill and may need to see a pediatrician. Always remember to contact your doctor once the blisters become infected and your child has difficulty breathing.
