It is very common to have the blues sometimes or feel worried about upcoming events. Growing up can be very stressful for kids as they go through many changes in their physical and emotional development. Kids may be fearful of going to school or being separated from their parents, but these usually pass as they adapt to their new environments. A child may have a panic disorder if they suffer from regular panic attacks, intense fear, and anxiety, alongside other physical symptoms. These attacks don’t often have a noticeable trigger, but they can cause a massive amount of disruption in the child’s life.

Our office is continuing to closely monitor the rapidly changing COVID-19 pandemic. Recently Colorado has moved from a containment phase, where health department would research the contacts of all positive tests, to a mitigation approach to the virus, where it is assumed the novel coronavirus is widely circulating in the community. Unfortunately, there is evidence of significant coronavirus spread in Colorado. People who have mild cold symptoms in the community may be infected with COVID-19 and be unaware that they are infectious, allowing the virus to spread. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we implement our Pandemic Policies and Procedures. We thank you for entrusting your child’s care to us as we continue to provide the most comprehensive pediatric medical services. As always, we will remain available to address your concerns and worries during this difficult time.
Mental health disorders, such as depression and panic disorders, have seen an alarming increase in recent years. While depression and panic attacks are most associated with adults, the truth is that these disorders can affect people of all ages. If you have any concerns, then you should get in touch with your pediatrician as soon as possible. They will be able to give you advice and refer your child to a specialist. The specialist can help the child with therapy or other medical interventions, as well as giving you tools to support the child during this challenging period.
