By provoking the body to create antibodies, vaccines help prevent a person from contracting a certain illness. Even if a person does come down with a disease he or she has been vaccinated for, multiple studies have shown that people experience incredibly mild symptoms. With that in mind, be sure to have a pediatrician administer these important vaccines to your child:
MMR
The MMR vaccine protects a child from three diseases: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. The vaccine is usually administered to a child once he or she reaches 15 months of age.
DTaP
The DTaP vaccine also protects children from three diseases: Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (Whooping Cough). It is administered periodically: 2 months old, 4 months old, 6 months old, 15 months old, and 4-5 years old.
Varicella
The Varicella vaccine protects children from chickenpox. It is usually administered to a child between four to five years old.
HepB
The HepB vaccine protects children from hepatitis B, a disease that attacks the liver. The vaccine is administered periodically: upon birth, 2 months old, 4 months old, 12 months old.
Booster shots may be necessary once the child becomes an adult. Consult a pediatrician for more information.
